Every gift card in your Cardivo account has a status, shown in the Status column on the gift cards page. Here's more info on each one.
📆 Scheduled
The buyer chose a future send date, so the gift card email hasn't gone to the recipient yet. The buyer has already paid and received a confirmation that their gift card is scheduled.
While a gift card is Scheduled, you can change the recipient's email (it will still send on the scheduled date) or send it early via the more menu next to the gift card in your dashboard More - Send gift card email now. You'll be asked to confirm this, and then it will send to the recipient immediately and switch to the Active status.
🎁 Active
The gift card email has been delivered and the gift card has an unredeemed balance. It can be redeemed through any of your enabled channels, or manually from your dashboard. This is the main status most gift cards will have once they are ready for recipients to use.
🏁 Completed
The gift card has been fully redeemed and its balance is zero. If someone checks the balance of a Completed gift card, they'll see it has no remaining balance.
❌ Undelivered
The gift card email couldn't reach the recipient. This happens when our automated email checks flag the address as invalid, or when the attempted delivery bounces and can't be delivered. The gift card and its full balance are safe.
To fix it, you just need to get the correct email from the buyer and click on the "update this email here" link that will be shown on the banner at the top of the gift card page.
Once a valid email is added, we'll automatically attempt re-delivery of the gift card and its status changes to Active if delivered.
⌛️ Expired
The gift card is past its expiry date and can no longer be redeemed. Gift cards only expire if you've set an expiry period in your gift card settings; by default they never expire. The expiry date is calculated from the gift card's send date plus the expiry period that was in place when it was purchased.
If someone with an expired gift card checks their balance, they are shown a message saying the gift card has expired and to contact you (via the support email you've added in your Cardivo settings) for assistance.
If you need to extend a Cardivo gift card's expiry date, just contact us via the chat icon and we can help you get this done.
🥶 Frozen
You (or another user on your account) have frozen this gift card, which blocks redemption everywhere across all channels. This is useful to prevent unauthorized use or any other reason you might want to prevent this gift card from being redeemed. You can toggle this on/off any time.
The date it was frozen shows under the status. The balance is preserved, and you can unfreeze it any time via the more menu More - Unfreeze gift card.
For balance checks, frozen gift cards show as blocked with a note to contact your support email.
You can filter for different statuses in your dashboard by typing the status into the search bar, like "undelivered" or "scheduled".
How statuses change
The typical journey: a gift card is Scheduled (if the buyer picked a future date), becomes Active when the gift card email is delivered, and becomes Completed once the full balance has been redeemed.
For gift cards where buyers choose to send immediately at purchase, they go straight to an Active status once they are delivered to the recipient and move to Completed once fully redeemed.
Gift cards that are partly redeemed remain Active until fully redeemed. You can easily know they are partly redeemed based on the remaining balance value not being zero.
Frozen, Undelivered, and Expired are the exceptions along the way on a case-by-case basis.
